FAQs

What is the Digicel Foundation?

The Digicel Foundation is a non-profit organization that distributes and utilizes funds on a charitable basis for the sole purpose of building communities and the community spirit in Haiti.

How does the Foundation carry out its work?

In order to carry out its role effectively, the Foundation works alongside and through structured Community organizations to ensure the smooth implementation of projects. The Foundation works with Government and Non-Governmental Organizations throughout the whole island of Haiti.

What projects or programmes will Digicel Foundation assist?

In general, we are particularly interested in Community programmes which embrace and reflect the educational, social and cultural aspirations of the community. The projects should (1) Address community needs, (2) Encourage volunteerism and civic engagement (3) Promote leadership with integrity, (4) Promote opportunities for marginalized groups & (5) have tangible products (e.g. school buildings) as critical objectives of the programme. We place a high emphasis on education projects as we see education as a fundamental change agent in the lives of the poor in Haiti.

What projects or programmes will Digicel Foundation not assist?

Our resources are limited and we aim to maximise the community good.  Therefore we have to select the types of projects we can support - and those we cannot.  Some of the most important points to keep in mind are that the Digicel Foundation only supports organizations; no scholarships or supports can be provided to private individuals.

The Digicel Foundation does not grant funding for events, sponsorships, food or healthcare or similar activities.  These type of proposals are not even considered by the Foundation.
